Sri Lanka's camping scene has grown dramatically in recent years, moving well beyond the basic tent-on-grass experience into something genuinely special. From lakeside clearings in the Knuckles foothills to forested ridges above the Cultural Triangle, the island offers overnight options that let you trade the noise of the city for the silence of the wild.

Sembuwatta Lake in Elkaduwa is one of the most popular glamping destinations — a man-made reservoir surrounded by pine forests and rolling hills where you can pitch a tent or sleep in a pre-set canvas glamping tent with proper beds, fairy lights, and a fire pit. Wake before dawn and you'll have the mist-covered lake entirely to yourself.

For a more adventurous option, multi-night wilderness camps can be arranged in remote areas of the Knuckles range or near Horton Plains, where nights are cold and clear and the Milky Way is genuinely dazzling. All camps include experienced camp staff, proper cooking facilities, and safety equipment — this is comfort camping, not survival camping.
